WAIKIKI IGA supermarket has helped the newly established Waikiki Dragons Little Athletics Club with its start-up costs and to help fund new sports equipment by donating $500 through IGA’s successful Community Chest.
The program is an initiative that operates all year in IGA supermarkets where a percentage of sales is given back to the local community, charities and worthy causes when customers purchase a product bearing the IGA Community Chest logo.
The cheque was presented at a recent club meeting at Hourglass Reserve in Cooloongup to the club’s representative Richard Beaney, while the children from the team were treated to free fruit platters, courtesy of the supermarket.
The club has more than 65 members since it began about four months ago.
Waikiki IGA store manager Graham Sutherland said the store was pleased to be able to help support the new Waikiki Dragons Little Athletics Club and he hoped the donation would help the club meet its start-up needs.
The Waikiki IGA supermarket had also provided support to the Charthouse Primary School using its IGA Community Chest funds to help the school purchase new interactive whiteboards.
